Biswanath: A sessions court of Biswanath Chariali on Monday ordered death sentence for the rape accused Mangal Pyke who allegedly raped and murdered a 5-year-old girl child back in 2018.

The accused has been awarded the death sentence by the Sessions Court in Biswanath under sections 363, 376 (A), 302, 201 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for rape and murder.

The horrific incident took place in 2018 at Dikrai tea garden area under Sootea police station in Biswanath. Accused Mangal Pyke was a relative of the victim who had come to the victim's house for some work. Later he had lured the little girl and by offering her chocolate took her to a jungle area where he allegedly raped the minor girl and brutally killed her and hid the body.

Accused Pyke hails from Lokhra Burhagaon area of Sonitpur.

The case (206/2018) was registered at Sootea police station in November of 2018 by her family members. And later police recovered the body of the victim and arrested the accused person.

Tracing back the turn of events on that fateful day Advocate Jahnabi Kalita said that the Sessions Court of Biswanath has awarded the death sentence to the accused

person for allegedly raping and murdering the 5-year-old girl in connection with the case registered at Sootea police station in 2018." The accused had come as a guest to Dikrai tea gardens in Biswanath. He had visited the girl's family as he is a relative of hers and ended up raping and murdering her."

The order was passed by a bench headed by Dipankar Bora.

The sessions court judgment has come as some relief for the family members and relatives of the victim.
