LAKHIMPUR: Wreaking massive havoc suddenly in the Naoboicha area, ravaging flood caused by River Singara took two lives, including a teenaged girl, in Lakhimpur district on Friday. The two deceased persons have been identified as Sunil Das (45), son of Binod Das, and Puspa Roy (14), daughter of Sushil Roy, residents of Phoolbari under Naoboicha Revenue Circle.
Notably, the forceful surge of the overflowing water of the river instantly washed away Sunil Das, Puspa Roy and a child named Paresh Roy (10) on Friday morning. Later, the bodies of Sunil Das and Puspa Roy were recovered at Gelahati in the downstream of the river. Paresh Roy is still untraceable.
On the other hand, the rapid charge of the overflowing water of the river breached the Dolahat Tiniali of NH-15 and Dolahat Bazaar connecting road at No. 30 FC Grant, washing away more than 100 metre stretch of the road. The flood caused by the river damaged several residential houses, school buildings and other infrastructures near the breached area. The wave of the flash flood has affected several villages under four Gaon Panchayats, viz, Phoolbari, Dolahat Sonapur, Naoboicha and Pachim Naoboicha under the said Revenue Circle. At present, a total of 17 revenue villages of revenue circle - Dolahat No. 30 FC Grant, Dolahat, Chumoni, Phoolbar Bosti, No. 2 Phoolbari, Bharaluwa, Dighali Phukhuri, No. 2 Bogibil, Kathal Phukhuri, No. 1 Pachnoi Ujani, Kulabil Block, Deeju Chapori, No. 1 Deeju Pothar, 110/107 Grant Deeju, Haribor Doloni and Ranabari have been reeling under flood water. In the meantime, district administrative officials and SDRF personnel took stock of the situation in the breached area. A delegation of All Assam Unemployed Association, led by general secretary Jiban Rajkhowa, also visited the affected area and took stock of the situation.
On the other hand, a total of 28 revenue villages under four RCs have been affected by the present wave of flood. Of them, three villages under Narayanpur RC, two villages under North Lakhimpur RC, 17 villages under Naoboicha RC and six villages under Kadam RC have been inundated. As per report from District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the present wave of the flash flood has affected 23,591 people, 1176.00 hectares of crop areas, 1,670 big animals, 1,123 small animals and 1,124 poultry across the district.
