TANGLA: The Secretary of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on Monday asked the Deputy Commissioners and Block Development Officers (BDOs) for re-verification of draft beneficiary list of Orunodoi scheme of the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) due to 'ineligible beneficiaries' being incorporated in the draft list. Secretary of BTC, Naren Ch. Basumatary, in his letter vide memo no. BTC/BTC/RD-186/09-A also asserted that Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) CEM Pramod Boro desired that the draft list of the beneficiaries must be 'cleaned up' and only 'genuine beneficiaries' should avail the benefit.
A detailed guideline has also been prepared for the re-verification process wherein BTC Secretary, Naren Ch. Basumatary exhorted the bureaucrats to expedite the process of implementation of the scheme in a time-bound manner. The guideline has laid down for the formation of the Village Level Verification Committee (VLRC) for each Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) to be convened by Block Development Officers (BDO).
"The re-verification process was needed to strike off the ineligible beneficiaries, including those from the financially sound background, having government jobs in family, and to incorporate genuine persons who were left out in the draft," said a bureaucrat.
Pertinently, in the Udalguri district alone more than 56,000 beneficiaries will come under the ambit of the ambitious Orunodoi scheme, and nearly 38,000 beneficiaries were incorporated in the draft list. Sources said about three lakh people will be benefited under the Orunodoi scheme in the four districts of the Bodo belt.
