Relief camp for flood-hit children by District Disaster Management Authority in Majuli

Majuli: For the first time in Assam, the District Disaster Management Authority (CDMA), Majuli has setup a ‘Child-Friendly Space in Emergency (CFSiE)’ in a flood relief camp at Auniati High School. As part of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s (ASDMA) envision to reduce mental and physical stress of children during emergency situations like flood and other natural calamities, DDMA Majuli endeavoured to open the unique child friendly space with technical support from the Unicef Assam and RVC, an NGO based in Dhemaji, stated a press release.

ASDMA has taken up the pilot initiative in Majuli and Dhemaji districts, through which it envisions to setup CFSiE in every relief camp across the State in the coming years for disaster-hit children. The CFSiE in the relief camp at Auniati High School was inaugurated on Monday by the ADC, Majuli Noren Das. As part of the CFSiE activities, the child inmates on Monday took part in group play and drawing activity. CFSiE activities would be conducted among the children from 10am to 12pm in the morning session and again from 2pm to 4pm in the second half every day. In the very first day, a total of 63 children (18 boys and 45 girls) registered their names in the CFSiE at the relief camp.
