Pathshala, Assam:

In a move that might prove to be good news for thousands of unemployed youths of Assam, state Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Ranjeet Kumar Dass said on Monday that the state government has decided to hold a common exam for all posts in the same category but in different departments.

Earlier candidates had to appear for separate exams for the same category of posts for every department.

Making the announcement, Minister Dass said that the decision was taken following directions given by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after he took over the Chief Minister last month. The CM wanted to give some respite to the candidates who have repeatedly applied for vacancies in various departments and sat for several rounds for examinations for the same category or rank of posts in different departments.

He also stated that the government would soon appoint 111 junior engineers in the Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship programme of the Central government to provide tap water to every rural home and another 171 junior engineers and assistant engineers would also be appointed in the Public Health Engineering Department.

Minister Dass also visited the residence of prominent educationist and writer Sampurnananda Talukdar who died recently, expressed his condolences to the grieving family and paid tribute to the departed soul. The minister mourned the loss of Talukdar, saying it was an irreparable loss for Bajali and Assam. Minister Dass conveyed condolences to the family on behalf of CM Sarma.
