Sootea, Assam: In a move that could come as some relief for many in and around Sootea, the Kanyaka Dairy Farm of Jamugurihat has decided to sell milk at Rs 50 a litre, Rs 4 less than the earlier price of Kanyaka milk. The reduced price comes into effect from June 9, Wednesday. The prices have been slashed to give some relief to the people hit by the pandemic, Nirioj Nishim Hazarika, CEO of the dairy farm said.

"We have been selling our pasteurized milk at Rs 54 a litre. We have decided to reduce the price by Rs 4 a litre because we know how important consumption of milk is, be it for the young or be it for the old. COVID pandemic has hurt many people financially therefore, the board of Kanyaka decided to reduce the prices of milk to help the people. Nutrition during these COVID times is very necessary," Hazarika said speaking to the media.

The Kanyaka Dairy Farm was set up under the guidance and with the support of Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika to provide income avenues to the local youths and strengthen the economy of the area.

Spread over 3000 bighas of land along the Bharali River, the Kanyaka farm known as the Bharali Pariya Kanyaka Bahumukhi Paam deals not only in milk and milk products but also sales sweets and namkeem. The farm also has plantations of vegetables and fruits like banana, lemon, watermelon, cabbage, potato, black gram, mustard seed, sesame (til), brinjal, peas, wheat, cauliflower, pumpkin, bottle guard, and other leafy vegetables.
