Relief materials distributed among fire mishap victims in Digboi

DIGBOI: Digboi Lachit Nagar based Rameswar Dhanowar College, under the banner of RD Educational Sports Foundation, distributed relief materials to five families affected by the fire accident of Itavata under Digboi Police station, on Thursday morning.

A team of faculties led by Dibyajyoti Das, the Principal of the college, reached out to the displaced family members and gave them various durable items of daily use here at Itavata LP School which has been designated as the relief camp. In all, 17 members of the five affected families are being accommodated at the temporary rehabilitation centre.

Meanwhile, when asked about the possibilities of any official compensation that might be paid to the homeless families, Pallash Rajkumar Ahom, the SDO (civil) Marghetita, said that the circle officer concerned had already assessed and submitted the damage estimate which would soon be forwarded to the department concerned for consideration as per existing provisions of law. "I am hopeful that the process of long-term compensation to the affected families will be accelerated and possibly the government might help re-building the residences in the same place," said Ahom.
