Remembering Bhupen Hazarika On His 95th Birth Anniversary, Assam CM Offers His Wishes

Guwahati: Today is the birthday of Assam's legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika. He claims to have inherited his singing skills from his mother who would sing him lullabies. She also happened to have introduced him to the state's folk music.  

Bhupen Hazarika later grew up to become Assam's greatest playback singer, lyricist, musician, poet and filmmaker. His works in music were largely in the Assamese language.

On the occasion of the 95th birthday of the Bard of Brahmaputra, many influential figures have taken to Twitter to wish the iconic singer on his birthday.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "Dr Bhupen Hazarika's contribution to the cultural sphere of Assam is undeniable. This is the first time that I've seen such a large number of women in the United States, and it's the first time that I've seen such a large number of women in the United States, and it's the first time that I've seen such a large number."

Former Assam CM and Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Minister of AYUSH, Government of India, Sarbananda Sonowal, also sent his wishes to the late singer on Twitter which read, "Remembering the Bard of Brahmaputra, Bharat Ratna, Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary. His voice carried the songs of the great river, and its message of brotherhood and harmony to the world."
