JAMUGURIHAT: Taranath Sarma, a renowned social worker and freedom fighter of Samar Dalani area near here was remembered on his 106th birth anniversary on Sunday at Samar Dalani. In this connection, a public meeting was organized by Taranath Sarma Smriti Puthibharal with a day-long programme in the conference hall of Dakhin Nagsankar High School with Hem Sagar Sarma in the chair. The programme began with hoisting of the institutional flag by Hem Sagar Sarma, vice-president of the library in the morning. The open session began with illumination of the ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Taranath Sarma followed by floral tribute offered by Hemlal Sarma.

Chandra Kanta Sarma, retired headmaster inaugurated the open session. Purna Kumar Sarma, recipient of Sahitya Akademi’s Translation award, graced the occasion as an appointed speaker who had highlighted the life and contributions of Sarma. Mahesh Khatowora, secretary of the organizing committee, explained the objectives. The open session was also addressed by Bhabani Sarma, Churamoni Sarkar, Lila Kanta Sarma, Bhuban Lamsal, Kamal Sarma and Amit Baskota.
