Dibrugarh: In a piece of news bringing respite as well as a sense of security, Water Resources Department, following the instructions of the district administration, has started repairing the defunct solar lights installed over the Dibrugarh Town Protection Dyke. As learnt sources, district administration was quite quick in responding to the fearful situation, and has begun its work.

Earlier, several socially-conscious groups and citizens, including Dihing Welfare Society, flagged the issue and made attempts to bring it to the notice of the authorities concerned. Due to many solar lights going defunct due to various reasons, the DTP had turned unsafe for the ones using it. It also led to a drop in the number of the people, especially women, who used the newly-constructed and picturesque embankment on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra for recreational purposes like walking, jogging and cycling. With the repair work underway, things seemed to have been set right for them.
