DHUBRI: At the instance of the Chief Election Commissioner, repolling will be conducted in five polling stations of Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency on May 6. This was informed by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer, Anant Lal Gyani at a press meet held at his office conference hall on Saturday.
Gyani informed that re-polling would be conducted in polling station no. 232 at Naba Bharat Pathsala High School in 25 Golokganj Assembly Constituency, polling station no. 167 at Bauskata ME Madrassa (left) in 21 Mancachar Assembly Constituency, polling station no. 22 at Katolipara ME Madrassa and polling station no. 219 at 445 Lowkhowa LP School in South Salmara Assembly Constituency and polling station no. 13 at 743 Bani Bidya Mandir L.P School (right) in 23 Dhubri Assembly Constituency.
“There were two lapses which were detected in our screening and we reported them to the Chief Election Commissioner. Accordingly, repoll was ordered on May 6,” Gyani said.
Replying to a question by media persons as to why re-polling was necessitated in the five polling stations, Gyani said it was because of two reasons – votes were cast on the basis of voter slips and mock poll status was not deleted before actual polling, and for this, two presiding officers were likely to face suspension.
Gyani informed that presiding officers appointed for re-polling in Dhubri and Golokganj segments under Dhubri Election District would collect their EVM, VVPAT and other polling materials from Dhubri in the morning on Sunday. Re-polling will be conducted between from 7 am to 5 pm and there would be a local holiday in the polling area on May 6, Gyani added.
Dhubri Additional Deputy Commissioner Surman Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Model Code of Conduct Officer, Animesh Talukdar, Dhubri District Development Commissioner Banashree Nath, Chief Executive Officer of Dhubri Zila Parishad, Purabi Konwar and high-level police officers were also present in the press meet.
