BOKO: The 69th Research Coordination Committee (RCC) meeting of Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles was held at Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati on November 7 and 8. For the first time, the RCC meet was held outside the Central Silk Board headquarters, Bangalore which was attended by the chairperson Padmashri Dr. S Ayyappan, former DG-DARE; Vice-chairperson P. Sivakumar, IFS, Member Secretary, CSB; experts of various disciplines in the field of sericulture; Director of Sericulture, Assam; Directors of CSB Institutes and Research Coordination Section (RCS) of CSB took part in the meeting and discussed various research and developmental issues, extension and capacity building and overall issue of the sericulture industry in the country.

During the 2nd day of the meeting, an interaction meet with Seri-stakeholders of NE region was also organized by inviting various players of sericulture (rearers, seed producers, reelers, weavers, entrepreneurs) from Assam, BTC Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya and discussed various issues and opportunities of the industry. During the event CSB entered into an umbrella non-financial MoU with Dr. Kalam Agriculture College, Kishanganj for the mutual benefits of sericulture research and education for Bihar state. The Director (Tech) Dr. S Manthira Moorthy from CSB and The Dean, Dr. K Sathyanarayana from DKAC signed MoU in the presence of RCC chairperson and the Member Secretary, CSB. During the meeting, a few publications namely ‘Spinning Gold - The success stories of Vanya cultivators’, ‘Muga silkworm host plant and rearing management’, ‘Challenges to triumph: Success stories of Muga & Eri culture’ and ‘Cultivation of Eri host plants and eri silkworm rearing technology’ were released on November 8 for the benefits of the industry stakeholders.
