KOKRAJHAR: There has been strong resentment over the poor use of Bodo language in the banner of official programmes. Hundreds of people expressed their anger over a banner of an official programme of minister UG Brahma at Kajalgaon in Chirang district held at the DC office recently where Boro language was not included on social media. The official banner of the programme for distribution of cheques to widows of COVID-19 victims was written only in Assamese while Bodo was left.

Many people alleged that it appeared to be intentional as there was lack of Boro officials in the district administration. They also said that writing the name of a Boro minister in a distorted manned was also unfortunate and disturbing. They said that the name of minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma was written as 'Goura' instead of 'Gwra' in every programme and even in newspapers. They added that wrong spelling and wrong pronunciation of a person's name was an insult.

Conscious circle of people has expressed fear that by pronouncing and writing wrongly the names of people and places, tomorrow the history of Kokrajhar would be distorted.
