In Assam's Kamrup Rural area, the anti-corruption cell had earlier that day detained a Lat Mandal on suspicion of bribery. Mahendra Nath, who works at the Nagarbera Revenue Circle office in the Kamrup Rural area, was identified as the Lat Mandal who was apprehended.

The vigilance cell claims that Nath was apprehended while taking the requested bribe from the complainant for the issuance of land patta documents.

A fierce argument broke out last month at the Bilasipara Revenue Circle office in the Dhubri district after a Lat Mandal was beaten up by a group of individuals for allegedly engaging in corrupt activities.

The Lat Mandal, named as Nazrul Islam of Lat No. 12, was beaten by a group of 6-7 individuals who barged into the office and demanded clarity on a land-related issue, according to sources.

Islam has denied the accusations made by the assailants that he engages in unethical behaviour.
