HAFLONG: The communication between Haflong-Silchar road was disrupted for several hours due to heavy road shrinkage at Lampur on Friday. Hundreds of passengers were stranded for hours on Saturday morning. Considering the difficulties of the passengers, the Executive Member and also the local MAC of Harangajao constituency Amendu Hojai took the initiative for the immediate restoration of the communication work. Hojai mobilized his team for engaging several types of machinery for restoration while supervising the entire restoration work. Though it was a tough task to make the road stable, after few hours the communication was made through for light vehicles.

Meanwhile, Chief General Manager of the National Highway Authority of India visited the Silchar-Haflong road to take the stock of damages caused by the recent incessant rains and landslides. He was accompanied by NHAI Regional Officer Alok Kumar.

Talking to media, NHAI CGM said, "From Nriambunglo to Harangajao, work for 4 lanes will start by October."

But during this monsoon, this road will be maintained properly as a stopgap arrangement assuring the smooth running of the vehicles. Answering the question of journalists, the CGM said all precautionary measures would be taken with advanced technology so that no such breaches or any damage is caused to the road in future. Due to heavy rain and landslides many culverts were damaged creating breaches disrupting the communication between Haflong-Silchar.
