GAURISAGAR: Karuna Dutta (60), retired Assistant Engineer of PWD Sivasagar division, passed away on Thursday evening after he saw the body of his beloved nephew who had breathed his last at the age of 30.

After paying tribute to his nephew, Dutta fell on the ground. He was immediately admitted in a private hospital in Jorhat but due to his deteriorating health condition, he was shifted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH). After a while he breathed his last in JMCH.

Born in Jorhat Garamur, Dutta got superannuation on December 31, 2019. He had lost his only son Antariksha Dutta, a student of HS first year, in June, 2018. In fond memory of his son, he formed an educational trust in association with APCU Sivasagar district committee which provided financial assistance to BPL students under Konwerpur Mouza who excel in the HSLC examination. He was the president of Antarikshya Dutta Smriti Rakshya Samiti. His demise was widely mourned.

Various organizations like Konwerpur Press Club, APCU Sivasagar District Committee, Asom Diploma Abhijanta Sewa Santha, Sivasagar division, Konwerpur HS and Nakatani High School expressed condolence at his demise. His last rites were performed on Friday. He is survived by his wife Jyoti Barua Dutta, subject teacher of Konwerpur HS School, and a host of relatives.
