BISWANATH CHARIALI: In a joint operation with the Crime Investigation Range personnel of Wildlife Division, rhino poacher, Biswanath, Kaziranga Wildlife division, poacher, Ratul Das, Gunda, absconding case, Crime Investigation, DSP, Kohora , Kaziranga National Park, ammunition seized, rhino, assam rhino death, knp, rhino poaching, police apprehended veteran rhino poacher Ratul Das alias Gunda (35), son of Tileswar Das of Rangsali Sonarigaon (Gopsar) under Behali PS, on Tuesday.
Police claimed that he was involved in many rhino poaching cases and NBWs are also pending. During interrogation by a joint team led by Deputy SP(HQ) along with SDPO, Gohpur, CI Behali, OC, Behali PS and the forest staff of Crime Investigation Range, Biswanath Wildlife Division, he confessed that he had concealed a rifle by burying it inside his house. He led to the recovery of one .303 rifle, one .303 magazine and one silencer. He stated that the seized arms were used in a case of rhino poaching in 2019 in Dokhota under Kohora Range, Kaziranga National Park. The boat used in the crime was also from Batiamarighat under Behali PS. The owner of the boat, Krishnadev Saikia (55) of Rangsali Gupsar is reportedly absconding. Another accused in the same case, Babul Das (35), son of Sudhiram Das of Rangsali Dalanigaon near Chandika Chariali under Behali PS, was also apprehended. He was involved in GR 426/14 U/S 25(1A) Arms Act, Session case no.136/16 U/S 51 WL(P) Act and KR/07 of 2018-19 and is presently on bail. Further investigation is going on.
