JAMUGURIHAT: Sensation prevailed in the Sootea area when news of a straying rhino spread on Monday morning. A rhino, which had come out from the sixth addition of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), was spotted in a pond behind the Development Block of Sootea in the morning on Monday. The straying rhino entered some residential premises at Pahusuwa, Malorgaon, Magurmora, Kurmigaon and Mazbasti, creating panic among the people.
The forest department, with the help of district administration, tried their best to chase the rhino back into Kaziranga but had not been able to do so till the filing of this report. A large number of people came out to see the rhino from close quarters. Seeing the people, the rhino became angry and rushed towards the people many times. No casualty has been reported so far. According to information, a team of experts will reach Sootea to rescue the straying rhino.
