LAKHIMPUR: The rhino that killed a farmer and wreaked havoc among the public in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur for last three days was finally tranquilized.

The forest employees of Dhakuakhana, adopting various tricks on Sunday morning, tranquilized the rhino in Borkolia Pothar (paddy field) at Maj-Patrisuk village under Ghilamora Police Station of the subdivision. Notably, the rhino killed a farmer named Sunil Doley in the paddy field of Abhaypur Maj-Gaon on Friday morning when he went to reap paddy along with his wife.

Then the rhino was seen in the Konwarpur Doloni Pothar near Dhakuakhana town on Saturday. There the forest employees tried to displace the rhino, but they failed to do so. However, the rhino changed the place on Saturday night and arrived at the Borkolia Pothar of Maj-Patrisuk village under Ghilamora Police Station on Friday morning. There also the rhino wreaked havoc by rushing at people going to the paddy field. The forest employees, police personnel of Dhakuakhana, experts from Kaziranga National Park had to struggle for over two hours to tranquilize the rhino. After rendering required treatment, the rhino was shifted to Guwahati Zoo. The rhino reached Dhakuakhana via Majuli from Kaziranga National Park. A few days back, the rhino created havoc in the larger Ujani Majuli area.
