TANGLA: A middle-aged woman was killed in a road accident at Lepetkata village near Tangla town in Udalguri district on Sunday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Basanti Boro (40), an inhabitant of the village. The pedestrian woman was hit by a speeding bike bearing registration number AS01DH3549 following which she succumbed to the injuries. She was later rushed to Tangla CHC where she was declared brought dead.

"The rider lost control of the motorcycle and hit the woman. The rider also received injuries but is stated to be out of danger," said a relative of the victim. Meanwhile, Tangla Police have also registered a case and have started investigation into the case. The locals have raised concerns over drink-and-drive related accidents. "Tangla Police must take cognizance of the rising incidents of rash driving by youths who mostly drive under the influence of alcohol," said a villager, Karen Kachari.
