GUWAHATI: In a heartbreaking occurrence, a couple perished instantly in a serious road accident that occurred early on Monday in the Nalbari area of Assam.

The pair was travelling to Guwahati in a four-wheeler with the registration number AS-01 EZ 4055 when it lost control and struck a tree in the Mugkuchi district of Nalbari, according to sources.

The couple perished at the scene of the collision. It is known that they were carrying their newborn baby, who just about made it out alive. The neighbourhood residents saved the infant, who was in severe condition, and took him or her right away to a hospital nearby for treatment.

There is no additional information available at this time regarding the child's current state of health. The unfortunate incident happened around one in the morning, and the identities of those killed have not yet been released.

Earlier, a road accident that happened in Teok in the Jorhat district injured at least 22 female tea workers.

The injuries, according to sources, were caused when the car carrying the tea workers lost control and tipped over on the side of the road. The incident was reported near the Meleng tea estate in Teok.

It was discovered that the tragedy happened while the tea workers were being carried to the estate for their regular duties. After the tragedy, Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) received a rush of injured women for treatment.

The Sonitpur area of Assam experienced a serious traffic accident last month that claimed the lives of at least five people. When the car they were riding in lost control and crashed into a roadside ditch in Balipara.

Akashdeep Borah, Bhaikon Potongiya, Bidyut Kumar Nath, Biswajit Saikia, and Dipen Borah have been named as the deceased.
