SILCHAR: "Infrastructure development, especially road construction tops the agenda of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika," said. On Wednesday, Hazarika laid the foundation stone of an embankment-cum-road on river Barak from Singerbond point to SM Road in Lakhipur constituency. The project cost is Rs. 763.53 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion Hazarika said, "The present government had focused on making Assam a flood-free, erosion-free State. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was working day and night to achieve the target of making Assam a more prosperous State." Maintaining that people aspired to have a nice road, Hazarika in a lighter vein said that for politicians too, a good and smooth road is the easiest way to win the next election.
Fund allocation for Water Resources department had been increased three times by Chief Minister Sarma and hence money was no longer a problem for development work.
Hazarika said, Rs 15 crore had been sanctioned for the embankment and road projects of Lakhipur from his ministry. Lakhipur MLA Kausik Rai had demanded Rs 100 crore for all the embankment-cum-road works in his constituency, informing this Hazarika said, the amount would be sanctioned in a phased manner in next four years.
Hazarika, who reached Silchar on Wednesday for a three-day Barak Valley trip, met the government officials to review the ongoing projects. Earlier he addressed the party men at BJP office.
