LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur district administration has adapted a number of measures to prevent the growing threat of road accidents that claim the lives of people. In this regard, the Road Safety Committee meeting held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioners office laid stress on minimizing traffic accidents in order to secure the lives of innocent people. The meeting commenced with District Development Commissioner (DDC) Manoj Kumar Baruah in the chair in the presence of the members of the Road Safety Committee.

Attending the meeting, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Pranab Kumar Pegu cited 15 places which were identified as most accident-prone areas of the district. The ASP called upon the National Highway Authority to take steps to check accidents in those places. On the other hand, District Transport Officer-in charge Makhan Dutta informed that circular had been issued from the Director of Transport Department in order to constitute Road Safety Forces covering some particular areas of the district. He added that processes for the same were underway and the Road Safety Forces would help the accident victims with regard to getting immediate medical services to save their life.

In the meeting, number of crucial resolutions were adapted in a bid to minimize traffic accidents. DDC Manoj Kumar Baruah appealed to all to use helmet while riding bike, to be secured with the seat belt while driving cars and other four-wheelers. He also appealed to all to strictly adhere to the traffic laws and rules and regulations concerned served by the district administration.

In addition to the members of the Road Safety Committee, Subdivisional Medical Officer Dr. Arpana Dutta, DIPRO Mandira Chayengia, representatives from Lakhimpur Girls' College and Kendriya Mahavidyalaya, officers of the Traffic Police, Public Works Department, National Highway Authority were among those who were present in the meeting.
