The Digboi Municipal Board (DMB) in association with Digboi Police in a bid to streamline the menace of town traffic congestion evicted the roadside vendors and imposed strict regulations on the movement of three and four wheelers passengers carriers within the township.

DIGBOI: The Digboi Municipal Board (DMB) in association with Digboi Police in a bid to streamline the menace of town traffic congestion evicted the roadside vendors and imposed strict regulations on the movement of three and four wheelers passengers carriers within the township. Three no parking zones with dividers have been demarcated in order to regulate and restrict the movement of small passenger carriers including auto rickshaws, Tata Magic etc. within the township area in order to rid get of town traffic congestion and provide ease to the pedestrians in the Charali Bazar area.

Based on several public complaints regarding the irrational and haphazard parking in the market area, the team of Digboi police led by Inspector Dibyajyoti Dutta swung into action and evicted all the footpath vendors erected upon the municipal drain in the market areas along the NH 38 with severe warnings. The vendors occupying the foot paths have been causing untold sufferings to the market goers and general people in the bazar area for decades.

Providing solutions in the interests of the public, the police also imposed restrictions upon the plying of mini vehicles through the township beyond 9 am till 8 pm. No parking zones were created beside installing dividers on the road. It needs special mention that the problems centering around traffic congestion, footpath vendors and irrational parking in Digboi township have been negating the beauty and charm of the historic oil city, Digboi
