‘Rongali Bihu at home’: Administration takes initiative in Bongaigaon

Bongaigaon: It is the festive season for Assam. Rongali Bihu is round the corner. Amidst the lockdown, the Bongaigaon district administration has found out a unique way to celebrate this Bihu while staying at home.

“People can have laru and pitha for Bihu from the grocery shops nearby or by online booking. Already several self-help groups of the district have started making laru and pitha so that people can enjoy the Bihu festival and also obey the lockdown guidelines,” said M S Laxmipriya, the Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner, while addressing a press meet held in Bongaigaon.

“We have also arranged for several Bihu dance competitions online. People can send videos of their solo Bihu dance to the Facebook account of the Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner. The best male dancer above 18 years of age will be given the title of ‘Bihu King’ and female dancer will win the title of ‘Bihu Queen’. Dancers below 18 years of age will win the titles of “Bihu Prince’ and ‘Bihu Princess’. In the similar way, people can send videos of making making laru and pitha and the best among them will win award,” said the Deputy Commissioner. She added that Bongaigaon district was fully prepared to fight against COVID-19. “We hope to tackle this critical situation,” she said.
