SIVASAGAR: In a bid to celebrate and preserve the folk culture and traditions of Rongali Bihu, Gargaon College’s Assamese Department, in collaboration with IQAC, celebrated Rongali Bihu on April 11 with the theme ‘Bihu Bihu Lagise Gaat’

The programme moderated by Ankita Gogoi and Rajashree Gogoi, students from the department of Assamese, was inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta. Highly appreciating the noble endeavour of the department, Dr Mahanta expressed his deep concern regarding the loss of originality in Bihu celebrations in the wake of modernism today. He also emphasized the responsibility of both teachers and students of the Assamese Department in preservation of the glorious festival of the Assamese society.

Noteworthily, the students Ankita Gogoi and Sonmoni Chetia received prizes in the contest of preparing Bihu pitha-laru. The programme, graced by IQAC Coordinator Dr Surajit Saikia, Nilakhi Chetia, Head of the Assamese Department, and others, ended in a flourishing manner with various events like Jeng Bihu, Huchori, Bihu Dance, Bihu Geet, Dhol Badan, Gagana Badan presented by the students.
