BOKO: People in the Lumpi neighborhood celebrated the Assamese "Rongali Bihu" festival on April 25 with a daylong cultural program and traditional sports for the local kids. This was the first time Lower Lumpi had hosted the festival.
Because it is located within the Boko revenue circle of Kamrup district, close to the Assam-Meghalaya border, locals refer to it as "The Bihu of the border."
It should be noted that the Lumpi region is popular with tourists as a hill resort because it is close to Guwahati city and occasionally makes news for border issues.
On this occasion, several traditional games are planned, which include the long jump, high jump, blindfold duck catching, and many others.
Man Bahadur Thapa, head of the Bihu committee, and Suman Srish, secretary, presided over the all-day event.
The secretary, Suman Srish, stated: "The Kamrup Police and Lower Lumpi Border Out Post in-charge Jini Saikia took initiatives to celebrate the bihu festival."
The principal visitors at the bihu celebration included Kamrup District Superintendent Hitesh Chandra Ray, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (Rural), Pranab Dutta Goswami, and Boko Police Station Officer in Charge Phanindra Nath.
To motivate the youth of the Lumpi area, Hitesh Chandra Ray, SP Kamrup, stated that "Rongali Bihu is generally for boys and girls who celebrate it by donning conventional Assamese attires and executing the traditional Bihu dance."
Additionally, SP Ray urges the Lumpi locals to celebrate the bihu festival annually to preserve Assamese culture for future generations.
Later in the evening, Arjun Chetry, a general member of RHAC, Sumit Rabha, and numerous other dignitaries formally launched the cultural stage.
In his remarks, Arjun Chetry stated, "The Lumpi people have launched a tremendous endeavor that may have already been started. However, this will be known to future Assamese generations."
This was also an occasion to foster feelings of brotherhood and bonhomie along the Assam- Meghalaya border at Lumpi.
