LAKHIMPUR: The two-day long Rongali Bihu celebration programme organized by Khelmati Club, one of the oldest club of North Lakhimpur town, concluded on Sunday with success.

The event began on Saturday at 9 am with the unfurling of Bihu flag by organizing committee president Dilip Kumar Baruah and Khelmati Club flag by president Prasanta Baruah. It was followed by Shradhanjali programme which was administered by organizing committee working president Tapan Kumar Bezbaruah.

Then a galaxy of elderly luminaries of the area was given warm felicitation in connection with the event. It was followed by a cordial interactive programme among Bihu artistes, social activists, literary figures and other prominent persons. Academician-cum-Managing Director of Genius Academy, Dr. Mukunda Rajbonshi inaugurated the Saru-Bihuwoti competition which commenced from 2 pm. Khelmati club president Prasanta Baruah lit the ceremonial lamp in the evening.

The concluding day agenda of the event, on Sunday, began with musical chair competition at 9 am held among boys and girls, men and women. It was followed by Toka Bihu competition with the participation of women cultural groups. It was inaugurated by Padma Sarmah Baruah, the retired principal of North Lakhimpur Government Boy's Higher Secondary School. In the evening, Khelmati Club secretary Munin Sabhapandit inaugurated the lighting of ceremonial lamp programme. The event concluded with a cultural programme and prize distribution ceremony organized in the evening. It was inaugurated by Bihu expert Dr. Amarendra Gogoi. Jasingfa Bihu Dol, vocal artistes Madhabjyoti Rajkhowa, Lucky Pori Saikia, Siromoni Gogoi, along with several local artistes, took part in the cultural programme.
