KOKRAJHAR: A rousing welcome was given by jubilant supporters and well wishers in Kokrajhar on Monday to Promod Boro who is going to take oath as the next chief of BTC/BTR on December 15 at Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar.

United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) vice-president Pratibha Brahma along with party leaders and supporters welcomed Promod Boro at Karigaon, showered flowers upon him and shouted slogans for new change. Boro got in a vehicle decorated with flowers to go to Kokrajhar. Hundreds of people gave him a warm welcome in different places on the way to Kokrajhar town. He directly moved to Bodofa House, the central ABSU office here, where he was given a warm welcome and felicitated. Later, he went to the UPPL party office.

Talking to mediapersons, the president of the UPPL, Promod Boro said that the UPPL would form the new government with BJP and GSP and bring a new change in the council. He said the oath-taking ceremony for the BTC Legislative Assembly would take place on Tuesday where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Finance and Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma along with others will grace the occasion. He also thanked the people of the region for supporting them in winning the election and forming new government.

On the other hand, the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on Monday evening organized a candlelight programme in memory of martyrs at Green Field in the premises of the BTC Secretariat, the venue where the oath-taking ceremony will take place on Tuesday.
