SARUPATHAR: The SDPO (Sub Divisional Police Officer) of Dhansiri Subdivision, Trinayan Bhuyan along with his police team have so far collected Rs 1.29 Lakh as penalty from lockdown violators on Saturday in Sarupathar, Uriamghat, Barpathar, Naojan and Chungajan areas. Altogether 76 persons were detained, and 41 two-wheelers as well as 33 bicycles seized at various police stations in the subdivision.

Even as the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing in the Golaghat district, residents continue to ignore the Corona-prevention rules aimed at checking the spread of the virus. The cops had collected fines to the tune of Rs 1.29 Lakh from the people for not wearing the mask and coming out without any reason and violated the lockdown norms.

The SDPO also told The Sentinel that "there are several factors for the rise in the collection of fines, including the compulsion to move out without papers and the nature and duration of the lockdown. Fines are increasing because they are violating the lockdown norms. There was no lack of awareness as it has been over four months of second wave of COVID-19 and publicity has been done extensively. It is mostly the youngsters who came out during the lockdown. People have not dealt with these kinds of situations before," added the SDPO.
