MANGALDAI: Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) are an initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development to shape and mould the rural youth in entrepreneurship development through proper training and skill upgradation.

In the Darrang district, the RSETI was founded in 2011 by UCO Bank to impart training to unemployed youths under BPL of the age group from 18 to 45 years from the different areas of the district. The required training is imparted with the objective to generate employment opportunities in both rural and urban areas through setting up of new self-employment ventures, projects and micro enterprises to bring together widely dispersed traditional artisans, unemployed youths.

In Darrang RSETI, till date 6,763 unemployed youths have been trained under 277 programs. Of these trainees, a total of 3,567 trainees got settled, 3,215 are self-employed, 1,883 self-financed, 1,332 bank financed and 352 trainees are wage employed.

On March 28, the RSETI organized a valedictory function of a one-month duration beauty parlour management training camp. In this residential camp 27 educated unemployed female trainees were imparted detailed training by a number of expert resource persons.

Taking part in the function, Additional Deputy Commissioner Vivek Shyam Pangyok laid stress on the need to devote their time wholeheartedly to acquire knowledge so that the trainees could add new style and design with their creative talents.

Assistant Commissioner Shrishti Singh, General Manager of DICC, Pallab Jyoti Konwar, Anjan Pundit of Punjab National Bank, Jyoti Rekha Bezbarua of ASRLM and media person Bhargab Kumar Das also addressed the function while Director of RSETI, Bijoy Sarma in his welcome speech spoke on the achievement of the RSETI. All the trainees were offered certificates while sanction letter of bank loans was also handed over to three entrepreneurs.
