Guwahati: Noted Assamese writer and Sahitya Akademi award winner Guneswar Muchahary passed away on Thursday night at his home in Gossaigaon. He was 73.

Muchahary received the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award from the government of India in 2012 for his poetry book Boro Khonthai.

The Bodo Sahitya Sabha in 2010 awarded him the Someswari Brahma Literary Award for his poetry book Daina. He is well known for his contribution to Bodo literature.

Ha Fhisa Houwa (1981), Thunlai Bijirnai (1993), Daina (2008), and Boro Khonthai are some of the intellectual's well-known works in Bodo language.

Muchahary also served as the founder secretary as well as the founder principal of the Gossaigaon B.Ed. College.
