Silchar: "Rishi Aurobindo, whose contribution towards the freedom struggle of the country is immense, rued that independence has been achieved, but it is fragmented. It has failed to achieve oneness. At one stage, it was felt as if the country was going back to British days and in disorder.

But, the gratifying fact is that this is not going to happen. It is a freedom that is fortified by moral strength and spiritual awareness," pointed out Diganta Biswa Sarma, Sahitya Academi Awardee and an ardent devotee of Shri Ramkrishna, Swami Vivekananda and Shri Aurobindo, who delivered most inspiring and motivating speech at the Gurucharan College Auditorium last evening. The packed auditorium heard with rapt attention his one hour thirty minute lecture on the topic 'Sanatan Dharma in the light of Shri Aurobindo's Uttarpara speech and his five dreams.'

Diganta Sarma quoted the historic address to countrymen by Rishi Aurobindo broadcast by Tiruchirapally radio a day ahead of independence to focus on his works and achievements. His indomitable spirit, patriotism and dedicated concern to see a united and integrated India were brought to the fore. Diganta Sarma described Aurobindo as a great saint and seer, revolutionary, a think-tank of the freedom movement who was inspired by the inner voice of the Almighty. He would do as was being dictated by God which he considered supreme.

Diganta Biswa Sarma narrated divine moments during his incarceration in Alipore jail which he said were the commands of God. The basic thoughts and ideas centering round Sanatan dharma in the context of Aurobindo's mental frame were beautifully explained. Hindu dharma is not a question of faith or belief only but a way of making life morally and spiritually stronger also. This is high time to spread the message of Satanan dharma around the world caught in crisis for salvation of mankind.

Rishi Aurobindo though not a believer of God at the initial stage came to be enlightened by Veda, Upnishad, Gita and Sanatan dharma. And that infused in him deeper spiritual consciousness. This attracted him towards Yoga that led him to connect with God and his only prayer to him was to give him strength of mind and body to uplift the people for better life. Diganta Sarma quoted the concluding lines of Uttarpara speech where Aurobindo said though Hindu Dharma has its root in this country yet it can't become Sanatan unless it traverses across the continents for all other faiths are an integral part of it which has helped man to get new direction and change his thought process for better.

The public lecture was organised jointly by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Gurucharan College and Centre for Studies in Human Development (CSHD) Assam University. Others who spoke on the occasion included Prof Niranjan Roy, Dr Rajasree Paul, Dr Bibhas Deb and Prof Jyoti Lal Chowdhury. Earlier Diganta Biswa Sarma had an enlivening interactive session with the students of G C College on mental and personality development.
