KOKRAJHAR: As many as 1,752 saplings were planted on both sides of roads constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Chirang district on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 75th anniversary of India's Independence under the initiatives of Chirang (Roads and Building) division of Public Works Department (PWD).

During the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav held from July 12 to July 18, 2021 in the district, the Chirang PWD division had planted 600 saplings on the NH-31(C) to Padmapur road, 202 saplings on Shyamthaibari to Dologaon road, 250 saplings on Choto Nilibari to Madarpur road, 300 saplings on Bijni Panbari road to Sonaikhola road and 200 saplings on Panbari-Barpathar road to Chowrang road at around 13 km road under PMGSY-I/II/III schemes. Bijni MLA Ajoy Kumar Ray, BTCLA Deputy Speaker Abhiram Mahanayak, Executive Engineer of PWD, Chirang, Kulendra Boro, Assistant Executive Engineer Santosh Brahma took part in the programme and planted various species of trees on the occasion.
