LAKHIMPUR: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal assured that the State Government would initiate steps soon to construct the much-awaited bridge over Subansiri River connecting North Lakhimpur and Ghunasuti.

The Chief Minister said this in North Lakhimpur when the Lakhimpur unit Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti secretary submitted a memorandum to him on Monday night demanding the construction of the bridge. In the same memorandum, Lakhimpur MASS demanded the Chief Minister to extend free of cost legal aid to those indigenous people whose names had been excluded from the final NRC. The organization complained against the Lakhimpur Food Safety Department and the Chief Minister issued verbal instruction to the DC to take steps against the department concerned.

In addition to MASS, Lakhimpur district unit of Asomiya Yuva Mancha also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The organization urged Sonowal to take steps to complete the construction work of the Ranganadi embankment, to construct the embankments of the Singara River and to dredge the river basin, to establish a freezing house in agro-based Lakhimpur district, to construct the road connecting Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science with North Lakhimpur town and to appoint orthopaedic and heart specialists in North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital.
