NAGAON: Nagaon district administration, in association with the district health department, observed the Jan Aushadhi Day under the Prime Minister’s ‘Bharatiya Janashoudhi Poriyojana’ here at the Nagaon Sangskritik Prakalpa auditorium on Tuesday.

As part of the observation, a sensitization programme was also organized in which Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Port, Shipping, Waterways and Ayush, was present as the chief guest.

During the programme, the minister felicitated Hafijur Rahman, administrator of a Jan Aushadhi Kendra in the district and also distributed free Jana Ashoudhi kits among six beneficiaries of the district.

Local MLA Rupak Sarma, former union minister and senior BJP leader Rajen Gohain, Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kr Shah, Director, Health Department, Government of Assam, Neelmadhav Das, secretary to Children Literary Trust, Hishikesh Goswami, and others were among those who participated in the programme.

While addressing the occasion, Sonowal said due to the initiative of Prime Minister Modi, the economically-weaker sections of people across the country were getting life-saving medicines at the cheapest price through these Jan Aushadhi Kendras. He said the people of the State were yet to be aware of this flagship scheme. He urged to all officials of the department concerned to take adequate steps to make people aware of the scheme so that the people in general can get more information regarding it and purchase medicines from the Janashoudhi Kendra situated in the district.

Earlier, Sonowal also visited a Janashoudhi Kendra in the Nagaon Shillongani area and also interacted with the administrator of the Kendra. Besides, he visited the Batadrova Than and participated in the ongoing programme of Holi festival at Batadrova Than, the birth place of the great Vaishnavite Srimanta Sankardev.
