DHUBRI: A delegation from Dhubri town led by Ward Commissioner of ward no 6, Nirupam Chandra Ghose and Dhubri unit AGP general secretary, Simul Sarkar met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Dispur and submitted a memorandum, urging him to stop setting up fuel pump station at Dhubri ASTC bus stand, on Friday.

While expressing strong objection, the memorandum said that works were going on in full swing to install a fuel pump which was detrimental to the interest of the people of the town in general and various important establishments around the area in particular.

Senior Dhubri Girls’ College and Dhubri Junior Girls’ College are located just opposite the ASTC Bus Stand, and Dhubri District Jail, primary school, hospital, and government offices too are located within close proximity of it, the memorandum added.

The memorandum further pointed out that the area was congested with residential buildings and if the work of the fuel station was not stopped, it would put human life in danger if any untoward incident took place in future.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dhubri unit AGP general secretary Simul Sarkar said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal gave them a patient hearing and assured to take needful action in this regard.

“The decision to set up petrol (fuel) pump station at the ASTC bus stand should be opposed vehemently by all as it will bring a lot of problems and inconvenience, beside endangering the life of people, including students, around the site,” Sarkar added.
