LAKHIMPUR: The State government's initiative for driving skill training to empower and provide employment to the youths between 18-35 years of age, who belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, started in Dhakuakhana Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) from Monday.

The driving training programme is an initiative of the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM), as declared by Chief Minister in the Assam Legislative Assembly, which aims to train at least 50 youths from each LAC of Assam free of cost. It will engage services of certified driving schools and trainers over a 45-day programme. The programme, which will train about 6,600 candidates from across Assam, aims at overall grooming of the drivers and will train the participants in important soft skills and first-aid response in case of road emergencies. The State Government will provide financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh as a subsidy to 6, 600 youths after successful completion of the training to buy commercial vehicles so that they can find an income avenue and become self-reliant. After completion of the training, the youths will be given driving license too.

In Dhakuakhana LAC, the training programme commenced at Dhakuakhana Community Auditorium premises located at Amkotia under the auspices of Lakhimpur District Transport Office and Dhakuakhana based Institute of Computer and Infotech. The training programme was inaugurated by Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley, who attended the inaugural function as chief guest.

"It is good news for us that a total of 50 youths of the constituency will be engaged in the transport sector through this programme in the first phase. We hope that the schemes adopted by the government will bring change to the unemployed youths of the State," said Naba Kumar Doley while delivering his lecture.

SDO (Civil) of Dhakuakhana, Gurnel Singh delivered a lecture at the event as a special guest. Director of Dhakuakhana ICI Skill Academy, Paragjyoti Gogoi delivered the welcome address in the programme which was hosted by Sourabh Sut, the faculty of the same institution.
