GUWAHATI: A senior secondary school in Darrang district's Mangaldoi was shut down on Saturday after 22 students were tested of Covid-19 positive.

According to reports, the Darrang district administration has immediate closed down the educational institute.The students were from both the first and second-year higher secondary classes of the institute.

On Saturday, a Covid test drive was conducted upon some 165 persons including the students, teachers and other staff members of the institute. The district administration has ordered the educational institute to remain closed for at least seven days for now.

Notably, another student was tested Covid-19 positive in a different college during a similar Covid test drive.

Educational institutes were allowed to open recently after the state relaxed the Covid19 restrictions to a large extend owing to an improvement in the Covid-19 situation.

On the other hand, the Kamrup (M) district administration has declared the Kamakhya Vidyalaya High School in Guwahati as a micro-containment zone for the next seven days.

This development was made after the principal of the school tested positive for COVID-19 and the school campus had to be isolated to be declared as a micro-containment zone. As per reports, the principal is currently admitted to a private hospital in the city.

As per the order issued by the district administration dated October 28, the declaration of the containment zone will be effective from October 28 and last until November 4.

To take measures against the spread of the coronavirus among the staff and students, the school will remain close from October 28 to November 4. On Thursday, most of the teachers of the school had to undergo COVID-19 testing mandatorily as instructed by the Kamrup (M) district administration.

On September 19, physical classes from Class I had resumed in all educational institutions across the state. The Assam government had issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) according to which particular days had been allotted for particular classes to refrain congestion of too many students in an institution's premises.
