UDALGURI: Handwritten magazines of schools was released during the Gandhi Jayanti celebration held at Udalguri HS School on Friday. Altogether 500 school magazines prepared by the teachers of the schools, collecting write-ups from school children and others during the lockdown period, were released. Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia thanked the Inspector of Schools, Udalguri district circle, Bhaben Deury for the initiative taken to utilize the lockdown period creatively.

Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary programme was organized by Udalguri district administration at Udalguri HS School. The meeting was chaired by Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia. The DC lit a lamp before the replica of Mahatma Gandhi and paid tribute to him. Udalguri Superintendent of Police Ripul Das, Inspector of Schools Bhaben Deury, Puspadhar Bastola, the Principal of Udalguri H S School, and others paid tribute to the Father of the Nation on the occasion.

Nilima Dutta, the Head of the History department of Udalguri College, elaborated the significance of Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophy for contemporary society. Nareswar Deka, the national award winning retired teacher, and Amarendra Swargiary, social worker, also spoke about the importance of Gandhi's ideals for peace and amity.

An exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi and Poshan Maah was also organized by the Social Welfare Department on the occasion. The education department also organized an online debate and quiz competition among school students on Mahatma Gandhi and the winners were given prizes and certificates during the meeting.
