BISWANATH: A school employee was caught by the Anti Corruption and Investigation Branch for engaging in corrupt practices. The accused Anowar Hussain was serving as a peon in the Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed High School located in Biswanath Ghat of the state.

According to reports, a teacher of the school named Abdul Kasen retired in the month of March 2022. And the accused Anowar Hussain had demanded a sum of Rs 22000 as a bribe for doing the work related to his pension.

Following the demand, the retired teacher approached the Anti-Corruption and Investigation Branch. According to the plan, the teacher handed over an amount of Rs 5000 to the accused as an advance for the work on his pension fund, and the officials arrested the accused soon after that.

In a related incident, officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption detained a Sub Inspector in Nagaon, Assam on Wednesday while he was accepting a bribe from a person. This was part of the state's unprecedented anti-corruption campaign. The Nagaon Police Station SI was allegedly discovered collecting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in exchange for freeing him from an old case that was still outstanding. The episode occurred during a late-night operation carried out by the anti-corruption squad. The identified SI was Suruzul Haque, whose retirement was just one month away.

The vigilance unit took to their official Twitter handle and wrote, “In a late evening Ops, a team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed and apprehended Sub Inspector(UB) Suruzul Haque of Nagaon PS after he accepted a part of demanded bribe from the complainant for giving him relief in old pending case.”

On April 3, in Assam's Karimganj district, the detectives of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption detained a Lat Mandal on graft-related accusations. Joyshab Hussain Laskar, a Lat Mandal, was assigned to the Circle Officer's office in Karimganj's Badarpur neighbourhood.
