Bongaigaon: Sensation prevailed in Bongaigaon district over an alleged case of sexual harassment of a school student by the Principal of the school. This incident happened in Bidyapur Higher Secondary School of Bidyapur area in Bongaigaon district where a female student of Class IX was allegedly sexually harassed by Tomsher Ali Ahmed, the Principal of the school on Monday.
Talking to mediapersons, the girl said that she went to the Principal's room to get his signature on her identity card. "I went to his room with one of my friends but Principal signed on her identity card and let her go. Then he tried to harrass me sexually. I became afraid and came out from his room and then informed my guardians," she said.
The local people went to Bidyapur Police outpost at night and demanded immediate arrest of Tomsher Ali. The accused Principal has fled and is yet to be arrested. In this regard, several organizations, including All Koch-Rajbanshi Students' Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Suteadhar Students' Union and All Minority Students' Union staged protest at Bidyapur demanding arrest and suspension of Tomsher Ali. Later, the Inspector of School of Bongaigaon district arrived at the spot and assured the public to suspend Tomsher Ali from his job. The situation then came under control. Police started search operation but Tomsher Ali is yet to be arrested. He has been suspended departmentally, as informed by the Inspector of Schools, Bongaigaon.
