SCM to work for interest of border villages in Assam

Tangla: "The villagers who are living along the international borders of Assam have to face various problems for their survival. It should be the moral duty of every citizen to deal with such problems with intellect and vigour." This was observed by the outgoing president of Udalguri district committee of Seemanta Chetana Manch (SCM), Purvottar, Leela Bahadur Gurung who chaired the meeting of the district committee of the SCM, Purvottar on Sunday here at UN Brahma Boys' hostel in Udalguri town where a new district committee was formed.

Addressing the gathering, Gurung lauded the efforts of the Union and State governments and asserted that both displayed goodwill to solve the border problems. He said that burning issues like human trafficking, deforestation and man-elephant conflict need to be tackled by the government agencies.

The meeting was attended by State vice-president of Seemanta Chetana Manch, Menon Mochahary and State secretary of sports of SCM, Purvottar, Kulen Nath as observers. A new 17-member Udalguri district committee of SCM, Purvottar was formed unanimously with Pradip Rabha as president, Dhiren Baishya as working president, Arjun Sarmah as general secretary, and Ganesh Upadhyaya and Bhaiya Hasda as secretaries. The new district committee vowed to work relentlessly for the greater interest of border villages and to take appropriate action to draw the government's attention to solving border problems.
