TINSUKIA: Arup Kalita, the Digboi correspondent of a vernacular daily, passed away at his No. 3 Borbil residence in Digboi on Wednesday after a brief illness. He was 38 and was suffering from liver ailment.

Kalita was former treasurer of Tinsukia District Journalists' Association (TDJA) and vice-president of Digboi Press Club. The press fraternity was shocked at his untimely demise. All office bearers of Digboi Press Club, members from TDJA, APCU, AASU, AJYCP, and AOD Contractors' Association visited his residence and paid their last respects while Sadiya Press Club, Tinsukia Press Club, Kakopathar Press Club, Saikhowa Press Club, Doomdooma Press Club, Margherita Journalists' Association and Assam Union of Working Journalists' expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family. Kalita leaves behind his wife, son Anjan and parents.
