DOOMDOOMA: To create awareness about the security of journalists as well as their rights, Snehankar Chakraborty, a member of Assam Union of Working Journalists, embarked on a journey on his bicycle from Biswanath Chariali to Sadiya on Tuesday. He reached Doomdooma on Friday afternoon on the way to Chapakhowa, the headquarter town of Sadiya subdivision.
He was accorded a warm welcome by the members of Doomdooma Press Club on NH-37 in front of the ASTC premises and was felicitated with a phulam gamosa, a citation and a copy of the Tinsukia District Journalists Association (TDJA)'s mouthpiece Janadhwani. Snehankar Chakraborty alleged that although many laws were there for security of the Journalists, yet the owners of the publishing houses were depriving them of their rights. He exhorted the journalists to honestly pursue their profession.
Snehankar spent Thursday night at Dibrugarh circuit house and came to Tinsukia on Friday on his cycle. He was felicitated on the way by the fellow journalists in places like Lahoal, Dikam and Chabuah. Tinsukia Press Club also accorded warm welcome to him. On reaching Talap from Doomdooma, the members of Saikhowa Press Club felicitated him. After spending the night at Talap, Snehankar Chakraborty will leave for Sadiya on Saturday morning.
