BISWANATH CHARIALI: Prominent educationist, social worker, scribe and the founder president of All Assam Journalists' Union (AAJU), Suresh Chandra Borthakur was remembered in a memorial meeting held at the initiative of Surabhi Sahitya Samaj, Madhya Chaiduar under Gohpur subdivision in Biswanath district on Friday.

Senior journalist and retired teacher Nagen Saikia lit the earthen lamp and offered floral tribute in front of the portrait of Borthakur after women artists performed a chorus at the beginning of the meeting held in the presence of scholars and literary activists from the area. Former president of Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha, Prof Khagen Goswami, eminent writer Pragyasree Lokeswari Sandikoi, National Award winning surgeon Dr Krishnakumar Dey, retired teacher and Borthakur's consort Lily Borthakur and journalist son Hiranya Borthakur highlighted various remarkable aspects of Borthakur's life.

Taking part as the chief guest, prominent educationist and writer from Lakhimpur, Dulal Pujari acknowledged the immense hardships faced by Borthakur to collect news from different parts of Sonitpur and Lakhimpur districts.

A memoir Sambad Kesari comprising writings by writers from different parts of the State and edited by Tarun Baruah and Madhav Goswami, was released by former vice-president of All Assam Lekhika Samaroh, Kripali Goswami on the occasion. She also recalled the life and contributions of Borthakur.
