Scuffle between police and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad activists

Police arrested 20 activists of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) for protesting against the implementation of the Food Safety Bill on Wednesday.

MORIGAON: Police arrested 20 activists of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) for protesting against the implementation of the Food Safety Bill on Wednesday.

The activists of Morigaon AJYCP came down heavily on the BJP-led Central Government for passing the Food Safety Bill in the Parliament and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Morigaon police point. A scuffle took place allegedly between police and the AJYCP activists at police point. When police prevented the activists from burning the effigy, the activists allegedly became angry which forced the police to arrest 20 activists.

The president of the organization, Dipjyoti Basiya said that the Narendra Modi-led BJP government had removed essential commodities like onion, potato, mustard oil, rice and dal from the list of the Food Safety Bill. "This bill is against the common people, it will only benefit the capitalist class," he added.
