TINSUKIA: Death of a pregnant woman with stillborn baby has sent shock waves among the Lazaiholla inmates of Dodhia-Laika who established temporary camp on the outskirts of Tinsukia since December 21 demanding rehabilitation after they abandoned the forest villages located in the core area of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.
This is the second death reported among camp inmates, the first being an elderly woman, Reboti Paba who died on December 29. The second inmate, Kushmita Morang (20), wife of Bishnu Morang of Dodhia Kuligaon, died at AMC&H on Thursday night. According to reports, Kushmita was in the camp from December 25 to December 28. She developed complicacies and was shifted to Kuligaon after initial check-up at Tinsukia Civil Hospital and a local nursing home. As her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to AMC&H on January 6 and the doctors declared that she was carrying a stillborn baby and was unfit for any operation as it would be more risky. Her death was attributed to excessive physical strain and chilling cold in the makeshift camp.
Meanwhile, Tabang Mising Porin Kabang (TMPK) and other Mising bodies while blaming the government for the miseries meted out to the forest dwellers of Dodhia-Laika, demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the bereaved family and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh.
