TEZPUR: The second level of randomization of EVMs and VVPATs for allocation of polling stations in all the five assembly constituencies under Tezpur Election District was carried out on Saturday in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the presence of representatives of all political parties and central General and Expenditure Observers.

The randomization was done through the EVM Management System after which all EVMs, (which includes the Ballot Unit and Control Unit), and VVPAT machines were allotted to individual polling stations located in the five assembly constituencies which constitute the Tezpur election district.

During randomization, 27 per cent of all Ballot Units, Control Units and VVPAT machines have been kept in reserve over and above the required number of 1,324 against each polling station in the district. There are 1,118 main polling stations and 206 auxiliary polling stations in the district.

While in case of 71 Dhekiajuli LAC there are 320 EVM/VVPATs that have been allotted against 320 PS and 87 have been kept in reserve, for 72-Borchalla LAC 243 EVM/VVPATs against same number of PS have been allocated and 66 kept in reserve, and in case of 73-Tezpur LAC, 265 EVM/VVPATs have been allotted to 265 PS in the constituency and another 72 kept in reserve. Meanwhile, for 74-Rangapara LAC, 228 EVM/VVPATs have been allocated against 228 PS and 62 have been kept in reserve and for 75-Sootea LAC, 268 EVM/VVPATs have been allotted against 268 PS and 73 kept in reserve.

The second level randomization of altogether 1,684 BUs, CUs and VVPATs was carried out on Saturday. The first level randomization was carried out on March 6. The process is a part of the Election Commission of India's elaborate framework of administrative system, security protocols and procedural checks-and-balances that have been put in place to prevent any possible misuse or procedural lapses in use of EVM/VVPATs during the upcoming polls.

District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh, Additional DC Lachit Das, Election Officer i/c Antaripa Daimari, DAO and Nodal Officer EVM/VVPAT management cell Prakash Bora, Assistant Director, Agriculture, and Assisting Officer Pankaj Saikia, along with other senior district administration officials were present in the meeting.
