JAMUGURIHAT: Hectares of transplanted paddy crops have been submerged by the second wave of flood in southern part of Jamugurihat. The affected villages include Panpur, Laletapu, Amdara, Puranibheti, Khalihamari, Chitalmari, Parepal, Kathpora, Nalakata, Bokabil, Gosain Chapori, Bhojmari and Kachamari in the southern part of Jamugurihat.

The water level of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries has been on the rise due to heavy rain. The southern part of Jamugurihat shares its boundary with Biswanath-Panpur embankment below which the River Brahmaputra flows. Moreover, the sixth addition of Kaziranga National Park falls under this area. If the water level continues to rise then the flood water will engulf the entire area very soon. The local people have appealed to the district administration of Sonitpur and Biswanath to look into the matter and to take necessary steps.
